As a result of our conversation, I decided to dust-off an old post, give it a few updates, and pass along my thoughts, which can be best summarized as “ Ideas Don’t Equal Innovation. “ It is my hope to help dispel the myth that ideas are inherently good things.
Leaders who rest on their laurels without making the effort to develop their skills will eventually be overtaken by those who view leadership as a professional skill to be developed and refined. If those three qualities are present, everything else can be developed.
Not recognizing, developing, and rewarding talent is the fastest way I know of to drive talent out of your organization and directly into the hands of your competition. Tenure Inhibits Change and Cripples Innovation : Organizations that favor tenure also tend to be prone to majoring in the minors.
After taking a couple days to mull it over I’ve decided to select a few presentations that will be most relevant to the themes I typically write and speak about i.e. leadership, connection, employee engagement, productivity and innovation. Below are brief descriptions of several presentations from the conference.
Instead of beating yourself up or giving in, it is critical that you develop the ability to learn from setbacks. Turn setbacks into development opportunities by asking positive questions such as: What are the positives surrounding this situation? Don’t hide from the reality of the situation at hand. What can I learn from it?

While entrepreneurs are clearly talented innovators and visionaries, most first time entrepreneurs don’t have prior experience as a CEO. I believe great leaders will mentor and coach subordinates for the purpose of identifying and developing other great leaders. That’s about it.
link] Ken Carroll Mike, I think it's very hard to say in a concrete terms how we develop the skill of timing, but what we can do is become self-aware — and aware of the patterns of behavior. It also requires knowing which questions to ask in order to quickly determine the action and timing that must be taken. I Think Not.
At an organizational level have you focused so much on process improvements and incremental gains that you’ve failed to recognize opportunity and innovate? Are you efficient or effective, or do you know? I really don’t have a problem with increasing efficiency so long as the tail doesn’t start wagging the dog. I Think Not.

Should the traits mentioned above be more formally cultivated in leadership development programs? And there’s no professional development without personal development… In this case, I suspect those leaders who find it difficult to express their compassion publicly could do so with some developmental work.
The best leaders are focused on leading change and innovation to keep their organizations fresh, dynamic and growing. They find ways to consistently engage them and incorporate them into their innovation and planning initiatives. Others include a lack of focus on culture, failure to question assumptions, and poor innovation.
Developing effective conflict resolution skill sets are an essential component of a building a sustainable business model. Where there is disagreement there is an inherent potential for growth and development. Unresolved conflict often results in a loss of productivity, stifles creativity, and creates barriers to cooperation.

Take a sincere interest in the success of others, work on your likability factor, become adept at gaining commitment, develop your authority and control, and have access to things of value or scarcity and your influence with others will increase. Bottom line…Don’t manipulate for personal gain, rather facilitate for mutual benefit.

There was a lot more common thinking than critical, innovative thinking. Leaders get too caught up in trivial things and don’t pay enough attention to leadership development. When you develop the skill to transform negative conflict into creative tension is when you will begin to earn and hold the respect of even those individuals who don’t agree with your positions. I have always found that rapport is quickly developed when you listen, care, and attempt to help people succeed.
These conversations develop emotional connections and convey information that often has an impact on the execution of tasks. I’ve seen that, in general, women are better at relationships than men and it has to do with their being highly verbal. Women also tend to be more empathetic which increases connection too.

Does the company purchase an off-the-shelf solution, utilize an ASP (Application Service Provider) solution or embark upon developing a custom application? Oh, and what about development methodology? I could go on ad-nauseum with this line of thinking, but I’m sure you get the point by now.
Know what you want and focus your efforts to that end : You must develop a clear picture of what it is that you want to accomplish, and then apply laser-like focus in the pursuit of your goals. Its easy to ask for help when you first make a decision and develop it as a habit. For sometime now believing in the power of mentor-ship.
