Do the numbers crunching in the early phase of your career. Short-cuts can be construed as sloppiness, a career killer. When seeking a career as you come out of school or making a job change, always take the job that looks like it will be the most enjoyable. Try to think of your life in phases so you can avoid a burn-out.
Other factors may also inhibit leaders from investing time in developing their employees’ leadership abilities. Identify skilled leaders in high-level positions in your organization, and hold leadership seminars where they share best practices with a large group of managers. Place a library of books on leadership in the break room.
Learning how other parts of the company work can also build their leadership agility. Ask them to attend a conference: Attending a conference in their area of expertise or in an area you’d like them (and the rest of your team) to learn more about is a way to show them you’ll value what they learn.
