There also needs to be some immediate or upcoming potential crisis to grab their attention.
When a crisis disrupts the usual order of things, leaders can’t settle for just dealing with what’s in front of them today. Here’s how you can emulate the best leaders in planning through crisis. As a crisis is unfolding, you’re learning something new in every moment. Brainstorm. Discover opportunities and threats.
Some people are more suited to crisis leadership than others. But throughout the spectrum, there is one aspect of crisis management that no one is talking about. A massive crisis that changes nearly every aspect of life with no clear end in sight is a perfect example of a situation that can cause deep-seated anger.
We often ask people to reach beyond their usual role in times of crisis, and most employees are willing to go the extra mile. Don’t let the crisis become a reason to ask for nonstop overwork, but keep expectations as reasonable as possible. Don’t expect too much of people. Involve people in the decision-making process.
In times of crisis, one of the most important roles of leadership is setting an example that shows others how to respond.
