In my career, I have always taken the approach of raising the temperature slowly, and I wholeheartedly recommend that approach as you prepare to deliver bad news. Raising the temperature slowly doesnt get peoples dander up, and hence they are more open to sharing what they are actually feeling. They will personalize the conflict.
Giving up isn’t an option as it would mean forsaking the company and their career. Leaders who are positive create an air of enthusiasm, openness, and high morale among employees.
