The Leadership Pipeline - How to Build the Leadership Powered Company by Ram Charan , Steve Drotter and Jim Noel was awesome. I like Ram Charans books. I try and make sure they are all business books though otherwise all sorts of odd management models can develop. It is a must read for any aspiring leader at any level.

Whenever asked to recommend business books, I immediately inquire, “What is the single greatest challenge that you and your organization now face?” ” Of course, responses vary but over time, these seem to be the ten challenges most frequently cited, followed by the book(s) I think will be most helpful.
Much of Charan’s recent work has tilted towards organization and people (books on strategy execution, leadership pipeline, talent and advice on intensity, change, leadership traits, performance management, governance). Charan’s latest column actually affirms the value of HR to sustained competitiveness. The bottom 20% won’t take help.
