News Flash – If you have to look for leadership it doesn’t exist…Today’s post is not going to sit well with many in the leadership profession, but then many of my posts seem to have that effect. only to fail in miserable fashion. Beyond the character test, the first prerequisite for leadership is the willingness to lead.
If you really want to understand a leader’s perspective on the market, ask them about their competition. While some companies talk a good game with regard to competitive strategy, in my experience very few businesses actually address the issue in adequate fashion. that can cause disruption in the market.
In today’s post I’ll look at the topic of resourcing as a key success metric for anyone in a leadership position. The essence of Leadership is not found in doing things yourself, but in teaching others how to do things better than you ever could. Leadership is about teaching, coaching, developing, and mentoring.

Unfortunately, when it comes to courage in leadership, we often have a wrong impression of what that means. When it comes to courageous leadership, the image that often comes to mind is of a leader who is not just assertive in the face of uncertainty, but who also exudes a sense of fearlessness regarding the situation before them.
“Thought leadership” is a term used regularly in modern business, but it’s also easily dismissed as another marketing buzzphrase that’s best ignored. One of the most commonly used tools to establish thought leadership is blogging. So, why not extend that beyond the four walls of your organisation? Be yourself.
In an easy to read story-telling fashion, the author sticks to his main topic – but in very short order, he identifies the critical issues leaders should be communicating and why. The book comes together beautifully in a well written exposé of the importance of leadership. I was wrong. Murray’s content. Learn to be yourself, better.
Too many business leaders are preoccupied with the next answer to growth and find themselves stretched thin – trying to play in too many disparate markets and pursuing multiple strategies and directions that undermine rather than reinforce each other. As a result, they forgo the right to win in any market. .
But a problem that’s becoming ever more visible is that some organisations have made authenticity their marketing strategy, rather than a business one. This isn’t a marketing issue, this is a business-wide issue, involving every facet of the organisation. The future is where brands must focus.
Of course, while there are various technical skills and aptitudes that are required for leadership positions in various industries, one thing that every leader needs to succeed in their role is to be an effective communicator. Simply, you can’t beat good old-fashioned hard work. Now, here is the sad reality.
In fact, in most cases I actually prefer to have my thinking challenged – this doesn’t threaten me as a leader, it improves my leadership ability. Anyone who has ever been in a leadership position has had to deal with the inevitable tough relationship that causes more than its fair share of brain damage.
