Often what it comes down to is that their manager is not willing to wait for the time it takes my client to make some changes to their leadership. In one notable situation, my client’s manager was fired while my client was on a path to being fired by that same manager. Have you asked what this person needs to be successful?

I’m also sorry to say that others – your manager in particular – may not notice your potential for greater things either. You can’t expect your manager to know what you want for your career over the long or short haul. You need to talk to your manager about your career plans and if he can help you with career growth.

I teach coaching skills to groups of managers regularly; every individual executive client I have gets taught coaching skills in some way or another; and of course, I practice coaching myself (I call it “practice” on purpose). I wonder what people think “management&# is about when they get promoted? And how true.
Managers who are the best at coaching are able to shine from the inside out. You can also substitute the words “manager&# and “teacher&# and “parent&# for the word coach. Managers and other senior leaders would use new ideas to put the chaos back into some order that turned out to be more effective and efficient. It made the complacent senior staff members become more active managers. At some point order needs to ensue. Was this the case with this situation, or was it always chaotic?

when I see that we no longer need to use 360’s in our organizations because: There are no toxic managers. While I love your vision, I personally hope that the 360 becomes even more engrained in the businesses in which I operate. Ideally 360′s should be used to help managers grow, not to fix problems.
