Situation: Currently there is an authoritarian style of management creating a decrease in morale, satisfaction with work and innovation amongst employees. This is developing a feeling of strife, hopelessness and contempt amongst management and subordinates. Ensuring that all the people are working to their personal capabilities.
Working with a team of 5 Executive Directors from a company that employs ~2000 people we identified a gap in the Managerial Leadership Training , Mentoring and coaching of employees prior to being promoted to a Manager Level within the company. Increased customer complaints about service and interactions. Overtime increased by 30% in 3 years.
An Additional outcome of this process, that was determined through interviews with the staff and Management team, was increased trust in the competence and effectiveness of the organizations leadership. The process ended with the creation of an internal Director Leadership Program.

The 5 Whys is a question-asking technique used to explore the cause-and-effect relationships underlying a particular problem. The primary goal of the technique is to determine the root cause of a defect or problem. If you work in any kind of manufacturing and now most healthcare organizations you have heard of the ‘5 Whys’.
This week I have been thinking about the Main Useful Function of various positions within organizations; What is the Main Useful Function of Human Resources, Quality Control, Engineering, Sales, Production, Management? If I was sitting with you could you state the purpose or purposes for which the position you have was made?
TRIZ , for example — a model devised by Russian inventor Genrich Altshuller — is the original empirically based method, followed by SIT (for "Systematic Inventive Thinking") and a few other updated versions of it. Of the 40 methods spelled out by the TRIZ approach, 8 involve what we would term scarcity.
